'Go Time' - A Film About My (Short Lived) Mount St. Helens Record

2020 is the year of the Fastest Known Time. With Races cancelled, many of us are looking for another way of challenging and inspiring each other outside.

A week before I set the Loowit Trail FKT on July 17, 2020, Dylan Bowman broke the existing record. My record fell to Tyler Green just two weeks after I set it.

Setting and losing the Loowit FKT gave me some time to think about why I wanted it in the first place. All goals should be internally motivated. They should be about learning something about ourselves, and trying to better who we are. External results are secondary.

I had a chance to reflect on this while making a short film about the experience with Steven Mortinson.

We wanted to tell the story behind a fastest known time attempt, why it might be relatable to anyone, and share a beautiful place with a history stretching back long before us.

We had a ton of fun making it, I hope you enjoy it.

Brett (Founder of Territory Run Co), Steven, and I did an Instagram livestream to premier the film. We talked about the FKT and what it was like to have it broken a couple of weeks later, the process of making the film, and why we wanted to share it.

We released the film as a fundraiser for Big City Mountaineers. BCM breaks down barriers to outdoor access for youth from disinvested communities by providing free, fully-outfitted, and professionally-led backcountry trips for youth ages 8-18.

Thanks to all of you who donated and a bump from Brett, we raised $1000 for Big City Mountaineers.
